Skyline Blvd and its self-titled disk reach beyond a first effort. This music is destined to race the radio waves straight into many hearts and minds. The disk has forged a balance between thought and experience which drives these tracks. This is music that many will identify with while still offering a unique style.
The rhythm work draws you in with its own progressive signature sound. The guitar has a taste of groove with a little bite that complements the rhythm work. Skyline Blvd is best characterized as progressive rock. However, added in to today's progressive rock are elements of grove, harmony and a distinct taste of metal to give it an edge.
The disk has eight tracks, featuring songs like Krusader and Red Lights. Krusader was written with a couple of MTV's Real World (Hawaii) cast members in mind. The song is about a guy who tries to save a girl from herself. Good heart, no clue, Just watch him go. The lyrics in Red Lights touch on something identifiable in all of us; Red lights and warning signs fill my head, but I do it again
Skyline Blvd resides within the San Francisco bay area, and can be traced back to Phoenix, Arizona where front man Steve Bashford moved from in late 1997. At the time, Steve was racking up tons of live experience with an earlier project, Tynator. The group has to it's credits two releases on an independent label, over 300 write-ups in magazines & fanzines around the globe, and numerous compilation features including Metalblade's Metal Massacre XI. Steve said, I really enjoyed the intensity and originality of that project.
However, Steve soon developed a strong sense that it was time to expand on himself and his experiences. Steve said, I felt like I needed to really challenge myself at the time. So, he left the band to pursue a degree in Electronics. Since then, Steve has acquired a position as a Sr. Corporate Applications Engineer in the Silicon Valley. In addition, Steve's electronic knowledge and newfound capital have allowed him to build a recording studio where Steve wrote, recorded, performed and produced this Skyline Blvd release.
Steve said, I am finally at the point where I can imagine a sound and take it through the entire process. Steve concludes by saying it is his hope that many others will listen and like. Judging by the reactions from Skyline Blvd's early release, they will!
